My Favorite FREE Tool this week is Todoist

One of my greatest frustrations has been keeping track of what projects I am working on. It may be age related (after all, I am almost 63) but I find myself getting derailed and not being able to remember what I was working on or where I was headed when I started a project. I chalk it up to Senior Moments.

I have tried a number of project management softwares and mostly find them too complicated or too costly until now.

Todoist is an add-on to Chrome and works great for noting what projects I have going and checking off tasks as I complete them. I can even set a task up to come up daily, every other day, or weekly and it will show up in the list each morning until I check it off.

Like this week, as I play along in the ContestBurner contest, I can check off whether or not I have updated my Tweets that morning or not.

Thank you Todoist folks! Nice work.

365 Days in the Life of Blogger: Day 28 - Keyword Changes Made by Google - Market Samurai Follows Suit

One of the critical elements of blogging for profit is keeping up with Google and that is no small task.  Google loves to tweak their search engine algorithm and throw the marketing world in a tail spin.  That is why I depend on the folks at Noble Samurai and use their Market Samurai application for doing keyword research.  Brent and the guys at Noble Samurai stay on top of the changes that come out of Google headquarters and are ready to update Market Samurai as soon as the dust settles.

I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed with this product.  When I purchased it a couple of years ago, all I could do with it was the keyword analysis and find my competitors' sites.  Since that time they have added modules for finding products, designing ads, writing, publishing articles and even buying domains related to your selected keywords.  With this change to Google Keyword Tool, your Market Samurai searches are now tied in to Google's Adwords search tool and soon they will be adding a module to place your own Adword campaigns.

As usual, I have provided affiliate links in this article and I will receive compensation if you choose to buy a product through one of my links. However you are cautioned to research the products yourself to be sure they will fit your needs. If someone else has directed you to the product or you have a friend that you want to get credit for your purchase be sure to clear your cookies and access the product again through their affiliate link when you purchase.  Most affiliate programs will flag the first affiliate that directs a buyer to their site.

Keeping up with Google is vital to selecting keywords and blog content.

Day 26 - Playing Along in ContestBurner Inspired Me to Try New Things

About a year ago I was introduced to a product called ContestBurner.  Bill McIntosh was using it to promote his Business Inner Circle video broadcasts and private training group.  It was the great training program with Bill McIntosh that inspired me to play the contest with a passion, trying to win 1st place and the training offer.  I didn't win the contest but I was a winner anyway because my passion to win drove me to try new things, like creating slide presentations and making live videos of myself.  My contest participation also made my name known in a select internet marketing group and gained me many friends.

Bill is about to release the NEW and IMPROVED version of ContestBurner and of course he is preceding the launch with another contest to draw attention to the launch.

The prizes are again really cool, so here I am blogging my fingers to the bone at nearly 1 in the morning in my effort to get you to click on my links and learn about the ContestBurner Contest.

Review: Lisa Gansky’s The Mesh: Why the Future of Business Is Sharing | My Favorite Online Business Tools

Seth Godin calls it a “Must read insight for anyone interested in the future of online, of commerce or even culture”

Others agree that it will change the way you think about business.  Gansky leads the market in identifying the new trend in business thinking.

Are the days of cut-throat competitiveness and corporate espionage a thing of the past?  Maybe not, but Gansky pinpoints the monumental shift in the market collectives behavior.

As consumer’s gain control and demand more value and greener products, Gansky looks at industries, small businesses and groups who are looking to combine efforts in a spirit of higher social responsibility.  By sharing resources, less is wasted and everyone benefits.

Keeping abreast of the industry trends is vital.

New ideas are the life force of the universe.

Sharing cuts waste of materials and effort.

Search Marketing, Twitter-Style!

Two places I think it is essential to keep tabs on if you want to know what your market is talking about is Facebook and Twitter. In this article, Sullivan gives a great overview of using Twitter to find out what questions people are asking in your niche.

From Danny Sullivan:

By now, plenty of businesses get the concept of search marketing: ensuring that customers can find you when they do searches on major search engines like Google or Bing. But you can do search marketing on Twitter, too. You just have to think differently about your approach.

“Regular” Search Marketing

At the major search engines, people are constantly asking for answers. For example, someone searching at Google is basically saying "Hey Google, do you know the answer to..." whatever they're interested in. Google responds by providing a list of possible answers, a list of search results.

How do you get to be one of the answers that Google or Bing provides? If you have a great website, perhaps helped by a little search engine optimization, you might be included in the top results for free. Alternatively, or in addition to free listings, you might also try paid search ads.

Twitter Search Marketing

Like search engines, people are also constantly asking for answers on Twitter. The difference is that they don't expect Twitter itself to provide those answers, in most cases. Instead, they're asking friends and people they know for help. Sometimes, they're also asking specific companies for help, even if that cry for assistance is hidden within a complaint.

The beauty of Twitter is that anyone can "listen in" on the questions that are being asked. This listening, and reaching out with relevant answers, is also search marketing. You're still seeking to be an answer to a question, as with "regular" search marketing. But instead of answering with a web page or a paid ad, you're answering with an honest-to-goodness real response, all contained in 140 characters or less!

Be An Easy Answer

The easiest way to do Twitter search marketing is simply to listen for when people specifically ask your company for answers. They'll do this naturally, if you're on Twitter. They'll seek you out and call to you by name, using Twitter's "mention" functionality. Here's an example:

In that, you can see someone calling out to Dunkin' Donuts, using its Twitter name of @dunkindonuts, with a complaint. But that's also a call for help. This person wants the problem solved. Dunkin' Donuts responds a link for the person to submit a formal complaint:

Here's another example, where someone is asking the Transportation Security Administration for advice on the amount of liquids they can take on a plane:

The TSA responds with an answer:

Tapping into this form of search marketing requires nothing more than having an account on Twitter and then checking for your mentions on a regular basis. But it also underscores a crucial point. If you're NOT on Twitter, then you're losing out on an important channel where people will seek you out. It's like not having a web site, email address or telephone number. You need to be there.

Beyond The Easy Answers

Sometimes people will call out to a company for help but fail to use its official Twitter name. That means their cries for help won't appear as mentions. Instead, finding them requires searching. Search can also be used to find people interested in your products and services but who might not mention your business at all.

This is the opposite of what you may be used to with normal search marketing. Instead of people searching for you, you're going to be searching for them. It's still search marketing. You're still trying to be an answer to a question. But now, you're actively seeking out those with questions, rather than passively expecting them to find you in search results.

It's more work than regular search marketing, but it's also far more personal. Rather than anonymous people coming to your website and perhaps finding what they want, you can see exactly who is asking for help and can respond with a tailored message of assistance.

Searching For Company Mentions

There are several ways to find people who mention your business but who do not use your official business name on Twitter. A simple method is to use Twitter's own search engine, Twitter Search.

Here's an example. The business Yogurtland has a hard-to-guess-at name on Twitter, @yogurtlandinc. Yogurtland could run a Twitter search for the word "yogurtland" to find people who might not use its official name, like this:

Some of tweets listed require no response. But notice the last two. The one about when the business closes is easy to answer. Just point the person to a list of locations and hours. The other about not knowing what to do on a first time visit? Perhaps a welcome, or to recommend a flavor, would be good customer relations.

Beyond Customer Service

Twitter Search is also a powerful way to get beyond the customer service channel that Twitter is so well known for. It's a way to reach out to new customers. For instance, in a

search for the generic term yogurt, I found this:

She's bored, hungry and wants frozen yogurt. That's a good opportunity for someone like Yogurtland to suggest a cure for her problem, a visit to the local Yogurtland shop – perhaps with a special discount code she can use. Since this person also lists her city in her profile, Yogurtland could even point her to a specific store.

The problem with generic searches is that there can be a lot of "noise" in the results. For every person looking for help with some "yogurt-related" question, there might be 10 or 20 others just talking about yogurt in a conversational way.

One thing to try is what I call the "anyone know" Twitter search. In this, you search for the exact phrase of "anyone know" along with a word that's relevant to your business.

For example, let's say that you sell luggage online. You do a search for:

"anyone know" luggage

By putting the words "anyone know" surrounded by quotes, you're telling the search engine that you want tweets that have that exact phrase in them, along with the word "luggage" anywhere in the tweet. Here are the results:

To get those results, I used Google's Twitter Archive Search, which lets me scan through tweets further back than the seven days limit at Twitter Search itself. You can see there are three different tweets where people are asking for good places to buy luggage. While these are related to specific areas (Chicago, New York, Cabo San Lucas), if you're an online retailer, pointing people to your site that can ship anywhere is relevant.

Keeping Up

Over time, you can build up a list of generic terms, along with filters, that make sense to monitor for your own business. You can also save these terms right within your web-based Twitter account. However, you'll probably find it easier to use a Twitter management tool like the ones offered from TweetDeck, Seesmic, HootSuite or CoTweet, to name only a few good and free tools out there. All allow you to save searches and receive regular alerts to matches.

Finally, Twitter is evolving as a way where people also search across all the tweets that others are making, to get results that they click on in the way they do at Google and Bing. That means new opportunities, including ad options, for business. But that's a story for another time.

Managing Multiple Blogs With Gmail and Posterous

Coming up on my second year of blogging and internet marketing and I find myself with dozens of domains and at least 12 blogs that I want to keep up to date with fresh content.  Until recently this had been a major challenge but I have finally come up with a process that simplifies the task.

Using only gmail, Google reader and Posterous, I can now easily post to two or three blogs each day.

To accomplish this takes a about 30 minutes to an hour set up for each blog that you want to manage but the set-up time is time well spent as it will save you many hours in the future.  Here's the basic steps to get started with your own Blog Management System:

  1. If are not already using gmail, sign up for a gmail account to use has your master account.
  2. If don't already have an email address specifically for your niche, sign up one with gmail.
  3. Redirect your mail from this address to be redirected to your master account.  (This will allow you to view all incoming mail in one place)  To do this go to Settings: Forwarding and POP/IMAP: Add a Forwarding Address.  This is a two step process as you need to verify the address from your master account and then come back and Enable Forwarding.  You can at this time elect to Delete the mail from the original box or Archive a copy after forwarding.
  4. The next step is to add your niche address to your master email account as a Sending From address.  This will be done from the Settings tab in the master email account.  Just pick Send From Another Email address and add your niche address.  Again this will have to be verified.
  5. The next step is to create a Posterous account for your niche, using your unique niche email address.  Add at least a half dozen sites to autopost to, including your blog in this list is optional.  Some experts believe you publish to your blog separately.
  6. Now you are set up to add content to any of your Posterous accounts directly from your master email account simply by selecting the niche address as your Sent From address when emailing a post to post@posterous.com.
  7. You can also add your master account as a Contributor to your niche Posterous account by going to Autopost page and selecting Contributor tab, adding your master email account to each niche Poserous account.  Doing this will make it possible to post to any Posterous account (and it's related autopost pages) through the Email this options in Sharoholic or some other quick email key.  When using one of these choices you must email your post to post@nichename.posterous.com...  where nichename is replaced with your Posterous page name.    For example:  I can post this article to My Favorite Online Business Tools directly from my email account or by emailing the article to post@posterous.com from one of the email addresses listed as Contributors for that account.
Setting up my blogs to post through Posterous and Gmail allows me to use the Google Reader to research and study my niche and  and using the Email button in Google Reader I can direct a comment on a article in my Reader to any Posterous account that has my master account is listed as a contributor.

If you run into a problem following these directions, please let me know.  This is my first attempt at outlining the procedure...there may be glitches.

Can A Listbuilding System Be TOTALLY Automated?

I know we're all a bit sick and tired of promises of "automated software" that will make us rich before dinner.

And I'm always the first to be skeptical of these kinds of outrageous claims.

But today I may have to actually eat my words.

Because I just picked up a listbuildilng system that really is incredibly fast...,

And the traffic actually does keeps flow in on auto-pilot.

It's a pretty new tactic on the scene that I've heard of.

But I never really knew how to implement it.

Then I found this:

Free Plug N Play Listbuilding System

At that link 7 figure marketer Bill McRea is GIVING AWAY this listbuilding system totally free...

It's his way of getting some buzz going for his upcoming product launch (apparently he's go another system up his sleeve that's even better than this)

In any case..

I went and got this myself and it's totally legit.

There's nothing scammy about it all.
It's just a way to instantly create a win-win offer that potential JV partners can't refuse.

Bill hand you EVERYTHING you need to make it work. And I mean EVERYTHING.

So if you know the power of having a mailing list..

Do yourself a favor and go get this.

Do it now: Free Plug N Play Listbuilding System

I mean...you can't beat the price, right?

P.S. There is one catch to this...you'll have to help spread the word. But that's easy for me because I've seen this strategy in action and know that it works.
You should get Free Plug N Play Listbuilding System now!

Download a free copy of FTS's Smart and Safe Backlink Building Guide.

Blatant Lies And Product Launches - So True

Blatant Lies And Product Launches

It’s time for a rant …

You may have noticed it is becoming more and more common in IM launches for the sales page and launch emails to use blatant lies and broken promises to imply scarcity.

I agree wholeheartedly with Rosie on this one. I HATE any sales pitch that tells me if I don't act RIGHT now I will lose out on the sales price or product entirely. Yes, there are some legitimate "limited" offers and most often they involve personal coaching offers where it is reasonable to restrict the size of the group to what the mentor can handle but how many packages and conferences have you seen limited to a certain number, only to be expanded by popular demand later on in the launch?

Why I Am NOT Buying Affiliate Marketing 2.0

How many emails did you receive this morning for the launch of Affiliate Marketing 2.0?  I deleted at least six before starting this post.  I read two because they came from folks I really like and have met personally which goes to show that relationships (ROI) do work.

So why am I not jumping on the Early Bird Link and signing up?

Reason 1: If you watched the first four videos you will noticed they touched on the necessity to pick a strategy and sticking to it.  That is exactly what I am going to do.  It is not that I think Affiliate Marketing 2.0 is not an excellent program.  It looks GREAT.  It is just that I am already following a great program and I am convince that any of these wonderful programs advertised online and via email will lead to success IF a person starts at step one and follows through to the end of the program.   So that's what I am going to do, stick with the one I am currently do until I have completed the entire process.

Reason 2: Reason 1 is really the motivation of my actions but I am giving reason two for disclosure purposes just so someone doesn't call me later.  Affiliate Marketing 2.0 doesn't accept affiliate partnerships with folks like me who don't have a list of at least 5000 followers so even though you will find links to the program in this post they are one of two things, links to contest that is running along with the launch, and yes I get points if you enter the site from that link or links that will take through the affiliate link of one my favorite marketing gurus, Bill McIntosh.  So if you are not currently working through a marketing program and you decide that Affiliate Marketing 2.0 is the package that you want to buckle down and work through and you buy it through Bill's link be sure to follow up and send Bill a copy of your receipt so you will get his bonuses along with your purchase.

So that's it.  Whatever your choice, good luck on your business adventure!

ps..  Photo of AF logo was blatantly borrowed from AffiliateDotCom site, hope they don't mind .
As mentioned above, I may get contest points or brownie points for the above links and thus may receive prizes or cash as a result if you decide to purchase through one of the links.

Missing the Mark in Mobile Marketing

You know how it is when you watch one of those promotional videos and some guy demonstrates how he brings in thousands of dollars over night with just the drop of a hat?  You sit and think, well maybe this is finally the answer to your prayers, may this is the program that take you out of debt and over the top in this Internet marketing business.   Last week I thought just that.  I had watched the the Mobile Monopoly video through a half dozen times and it seemed like a sure thing but I still resisted the urge to jump in feet first.  It wasn't until I saw the same results demonstrated in a live broadcast done by a marketing pro I knew and trusted that I finally bought the package and set up a trial run of my own.

Not having a lot of cash to play with, I set up three different tests and my results were much less impressive.  A total investment of $100 (not counting the cost of the program) generated 55 leads in one niche and 16 in another.  This calculates to 71 cents a lead.  Not the outstanding results shown in the demos but the difference in results is likely due to my inexperience at copy writing and page design.  If I work at improving my followup emails I can see a good possibility that I will regroup my investment over the course of the next month.  Not a overnight success, but I do now have the beginnings of a niche related list and it includes people who have already demonstrated they are interesting the topic.  A step forward, however small.

My final vote on Mobile Monopoly is thumbs-up.  Even if my results are less than overwhelming, I think the program offers a great tool and educational videos on how to get started in marketing to the five billion cell phone users.  It is certainly the next move in marketing and MM is well worth the purchase price.

A couple of tips I picked up on my first efforts:

  • Your display page is critical, keep to light backgrounds and clear readable type fonts.  It is a good idea to view your landing page on a cell phone.  You can see what it looks like on a mock phone display on http://testiphone.com.
  • Research you niche first.  I failed to check sales in the niche on one product.  A second look showed a very low gravity on Clickbank products in that niche.  This should have been a clue that people were looking to buy answers in this field.
Mobile marketing has no where to go but up so it is definitely worth investing both the time and money to get in on the ground floor.  Remember though to run tests and analyze your results.  Don't be afraid to make changes or pull the plug if you run into a dead end.  Last but certainly not least, if you want to avoid the pitfalls of floundering on your own, seek the assistance of an experienced Internet marketing professional.  Sometimes a small investment now can save you big in the long run.

As a affiliate marketer I will receive compensation if you should choose to make a purchase through one of the links incorporated in this page.

Is Facebook In Your Toolbox?

The question is, how soon until Facebook takes on Google directly?

Places is the latest example of Facebook adding a feature that knocks a would-be competitor out of center stage. Foursquare, Gowalla and other location-based "check-in" services have to take a back seat to Facebook's, since most iPhone-owning Facebook members in the U.S. will automatically have access to this soon, if not already.

or so says Wilson Rothman in his latest commentary on MSNBC Facebook is the New Google

The Challenge is how do you best use Facebook as a business tool without burning out your friends and family members who have no interest in your business posts?

Manic Push to Buy

One of my pet peeves about the internet marketing industry (and yes I have been guilty of this myself) it practice of creating deadlines to enhance the urgency of the purchase. Almost every promotion or launch has countdown and launch deadline in addition to early bird bonuses entice you to buy NOW not later.

Many launches have a built in cap involved like a 500 seat conference that will sell out the first or second day. Others have the be the one of the first 3 or 10 or 100 and you'll get upgraded to a bigger gift or longer membership.

How many times have you jumped on an early bird offer only to find that the best bonuses were offered on the second day when sales lagged? Make you want one of those "we will match plus" offers like some of the big box stores offer.

That is why I put together Epic Traffic System News. I thought it would be a good idea to put all the bonuses for this particular launch together in one place so folks could compare their bonuses and pick the one that fit there needs best.

One thing you need to be aware of though is that the launch application will save the first link that you access Epic Traffic Systems from in your cookies and private data so if you decide you want to buy from another offer you need to clear your cookies and private data, close and reopen your browser and go to the bonus you want to buy from again. You should get a fresh offer with the original bonus page there to sign up. If you have signed up previously you need to sign up with a new email address.... gmail will give you new one if you ask.

Bill McIntosh's Mother of All Bonuses

I'll admit it. I am not only a Bill McIntosh groupie, I am a paid up card carrying (figuratively) member of his Business Inner Circle Elite group and I am proud of it.

I started following Bill on his FREE Tuesday night LIVE broadcast, where Bill gave away the bank week after week for an hour or hour and half sometimes. In the free broadcast Bill often does a live site critique for one of his viewers right there during the show. Bill reviewed my cheaplivingtips.com site and helped me revise the look and improve the content. Then I joined the paid members program so I could attend the private members session on Thursday afternoons. The private broadcasts are fantastic. With only a handful of us attending (I'm guessing most of the members work day jobs still and watch the recorded version... their loss) This also allowed access the archives of past sessions. In them Bill has covered all the basic steps for setting up your site and getting Google to index it. Since joining BIC a few months ago my site traffic has doubled and is growing daily.

You can get a 30 day free membership to this group if you buy Epic Traffic Systems through Bill's link on ETS News| Epic Traffic System News.
